Social Group: two or more people who identify with and interact with one another. The NCIS team is a social group because they identify themselves based on their relations to one another (i.e. partner, friend, co-worker) and interact with one another on a daily basis in order to do their jobs.
Instrumental Leadership: group leadership that focuses on the completion of tasks. Gibbs' leadership is largely instrumental because his main goal is to lead his team in an efficient investigation to catch a killer.
In-Group: a social group toward which a member feels respect and loyalty. Ziva proves that she's a member of the NCIS in-group when she saves Gibbs' life instead of her rogue brother's. She proved her loyalty to the group by saving one of it's own.
Expressive Leadership: Leadership that focuses on the group's well-being. Gibbs cares very much for the well-being of his team, and is severely distraught when something happens to its members, such as Special Agent Todd.
Groupthink: The tendency of group members to conform, resulting in a narrow view of some issues. Some members of NCIS were very cold to Ziva when she first joined the team, since her half-brother had killed Todd, and the others conformed to this behavior.
