Gender: the personal traits and social positions that members of a society attach to being female or male. Women are believed to need protection from their male counterparts and Gibbs exhibits this through his fierce protectivenexx of Abby.

Minority: any category of people distinguished by physical or cultural difference that a society sets apart and subordinates. Director Vance is part of a minority because he is African-American and Ziva is part of two minorities: women and foreigners.

Sexual Harassment: comments, gestures, or physical contacts of a sexual nature that are deliberate, repeated, and unwelcome. In one episode, the entire team is forced to sit through a lecture on sexual harassment and its inappropriateness.

Patriarchy: A form of social organization in which males dominate females. The United States is often seen as a patriarchy, seeing as many people in positions of power, such as Gibbs and Vance, are male. However, they don't appear to abuse women with this power.

Sexism: Belief that one sex is innately superior to the other. None of the NCIS agents seems to think themselves above one another solely based on their gender.

Gender Roles: Attitudes and activities that a society links to each sex. Women like Abby stay out of the direct line of field work for possible reasons such as a woman should not be placed in the front lines.
