DiNozzo had a terrible habit of cracking jokes about McGee because of his interests and his former status as a Junior Agent. Now, however, the two have developed a close bond and are good friends.

Structural-Functional: framework for building theory that sees society as a complex system whose parts work together to promote solidarity and stability.
After a murder has been committed the NCIS agents work with their forensic scientists and medical examiners, along with the local cops and occasionally other police units, such as the FBI, or the press to solve the case.
The team will often tackle cases in a similar way each time they attempt to solve a new one; they only discover problems when they realize conventional methods might not work.
Social-Conflict: framework for building theory that sees society as an arena of inequality that generates conflict and change.
McGee is the junior agent on the team and is, therefore, often looked down upon by the others and sujected to their teasing.
Claims Making: the process of trying to convince the public and public officials of the importance of joining a social movement to address a particular issue. In one episode, the show addressed the military's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy, taking the position that homosexuals should be allowed into the military.
Relative Deprivation: a perceived disadvantage arising from some specific comparison. A homosexual teen wants to join the Navy, but is unable to because he isn't straight. Disaster: An event, generally unexpected, that causes extensive harm to people and damage to property.
Anomie: Durkeim's term for a condition in which society provides little moral guidance to individuals. Killing is a terrible moral crime to commit, and yet there seems to be a murder in just about every episode of NCIS, which leads people to believe that some people have little moral guidance.

Postmodernity: Social patterns characteristic of postindustrial societies.
Social Character: Personality patterns common to members of a particular society.
Migration: The movement of people into and out of a specified territory. Ziva is not originally from the United States, she was from Israel until she migrated.
Gemeinschaff: A type of social organization in which people are closely tied by kinship and tradition. The NCIS team is tied together, as their time together as colleges has helped them develop a sense of kinship between them.

Eating Disorder: An intense form of dieting or other unhealthy method of weight control driven by the desire to be very thin. In one episode, there is a murder victim who was believed to have an eating disorder, due to some of the objects they found in her apartment.
Sick Role: Patterns of behavior defined as appropriate for people who are ill. In the episode SWAK, Todd is sick and DiNozzo tries to give her different remedies to help her feel better.

Family Violence: Emotional, physical, or sexual abuse of one family member by another. In the episode "Light Sleeper", Sgt. Porter is suspected of murder, based on his history as an abusive husband.
Cohabitation: The sharing of a household by an unmarried couple. DiNozzo has a habit of getting together with a lot of women, but he never cohabitates with any of them as he has "commitment issues".

Authority: power that people perceive as legitimate rather than coercive. Director Vance has authority over the other members of the team due to his title of director. He's earned the title and therefore the authority.
Profession: A prestigious white-collar occupation that requires extensive formal education. All of the agents of NCIS underwent formal training for their jobs that makes them very specialized in their professions.

Power: The ability to achieve desired ends despite the political life of a society. NCIS uses its power as a government agency to gather clues they might have otherwise been unable to obtain.
Government: A formal organization that directs the political life of a society. NCIS is in and of itself a part of the navy, which is a branch of the U.S. government's military.
